Money and finance have always interested me. After graduating with a degree in finance from a Brigham Young University, I landed a job with one of the largest and best mutual fund companies in the world (the American Funds). Financially, it was rewarding. Professionally, I had bragging rights about working with some of the largest institutional clients in the country – companies investing billions of dollars. Yet, I never got to meet any of my clients. Instead, contact with my clients consisted of sending emails filled with spreadsheets and reports. Don’t get me wrong… I like spreadsheets and reports… yet I also like getting to know people and helping individuals.
I found myself searching for an opportunity where I could make a difference in individual client’s lives. That desire led me to become a lawyer where my primary practice area is estate planning and elder law (wills, trusts, asset protection, medicaid planning, business succession, real estate, etc.). It’s a great area of the law!
Our team values clear and straightforward communication, and Estate Lawyer Mark McMullin takes the time to explain every step of the planning or probate and estate administration processes. I help individuals plan for the future – to be intentional about what happens to them, their family, and the property they have worked so hard to earn. My practice is focused on helping individuals achieve “intended consequences” through proper medicaid and long-term care planning. By staying in control and having a plan in place, my clients gain peace of mind by knowing they are not going to waste their money or their loved ones’ time and energy on nursing home costs and the excessive costs that long-term care can have.
I cannot say enough great things about Mark McMullin and his entire staff. We had to engage Mark to help with my family during a trying time, and Mark, as well as Taylor and the entire staff, went above and beyond to walk us through everything, and to take care of my Mother's case in an expedient, professional manner while keeping the entire family updated and informed. They were professional and caring, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in need of an elder law attorney. Ted HiteFebruary 26, 2024 We are fortunate to work with several estate planning attorneys that represent our clients. Mark ranks as one of the best. He is very responsive and a great communicator. Our clients have given him glowing praise for his ability to make the complex easy to understand. Derieck Hodges (Anchor Pointe Wealth)February 26, 2024 Mark McMullin came recommended by my attorney due to a medically devastating situation with my husband. From the beginning he was professional, polite, respectful, and most importantly knowledgable and trustworthy. His professionslism did not hide his compassion and caring about my situation. That, most of all, meant so much to me. I have already recommended Mark to at least six friends. I would definitely recommend him to anyone in search of professional, compassionate, and knowledgable legal services. Susan LaPierreJanuary 26, 2024 Very knowledgeable and personable and caring. He works hard for his clients. Aaron GwilliamFebruary 8, 2023 It was a pleasure working with Mark and his staff for my fathers probate case. They handled everything very professionally, and were very understanding during a difficult time. Mark was very thorough in explaining the probate process on our initial consultation, which made the whole thing easier since we knew what to expect every step of the way. They were very accommodating in making some changes as needed dealing with a difficult sibling. I definitely recommend Mark and his staff for anyone needing this type of service. Discovering that estate planning could transform the future for families was a revelation that steered me towards focusing my practice on this vital area of law.
I enjoy what I do because of the interaction with my clients. My approach involves deeply personal interactions where I listen intently to understand each client’s unique circumstances, tailoring solutions that safeguard their legacy and provide peace of mind. I especially the selfless nature of much of the work we do – where my client’s planning isn’t about them, but about how they benefit their loved ones.
I grew up in Southeast Missouri. I went to Jackson High School, then studied finance at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After college I worked for Capital Group, home of the American Funds in Irvine, California before returning to the University of Missouri for law school.
Returning to Cape Girardeau was a choice driven by community and family. Practicing law where I grew up allows me to give back to the community that shaped me.
Throughout my career, I have enjoyed developing a reputation for being straightforward, acting in my client’s best interest, and focusing on how my clients can protect and preserve their hard-earned assets. Unlike a general practice attorney, my focus on Medicaid and estate planning brings a deep understanding of these fields, and allows be to a be a trusted leader in these areas.
While I went to law school I anticipate that I would spend much more time in a court room, cross examining witnesses, and waiting for jury verdicts. However, now a large part of my job is putting plans in place so that my clients and their family can avoid the wasted time, energy, and money associated with court. While court is sometimes necessary, typically success for my clients is planning ahead to reduce family conflict and drama.
My goal is to always leave each client better off than when they first walked through my door.
Outside of the Office you will find me cycling on the Cape LaCroix recreation trail, running with the slow crowd of a half marathon, or planning the next trip for my family.
I would love to meet you and help you design a plan for your loved ones.

I enjoy what I do because of the ability I have to make a positive difference in someone’s life. When families come to us, they are either in a state of panic, mourning, or both. Taking the time to sit down and talk to clients on a “deeper than dollar sign level” allows us to build meaningful relationships that last well beyond our representation.
I grew up in Southeast Missouri. I went to Scott City High School – Diploma. AAS Business Management and Finance at Three Rivers – Cum Laude. Certifications in Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Hospitality and Tourism.
My goal is to make everyone who walks through the door feel as comfortable as possible.
Outside of the Office you will find me at the gym, diving into the foam pit during toddler time at the trampoline park or planning getaways for my family.
I enjoy what I do due to the impact our firm’s work has on our clients and their loved ones from the development stage of estate planning to administering the plan set in place for the benefit of their loved ones.
I grew up on a farm in Southeast Missouri with my two older siblings. I attended Woodland High School where my mother was a high school math teacher for over 40 years. I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Human Resource Management/Leadership Management. I received my Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University.
My goal is to provide our clients with the comfort/
and peace of mind knowing that their estate plan will be handled according to their desires because estate planning too often gets overlooked and put off for obvious reasons despite it being a crucial aspect of financial planning.
Outside of the Office I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, cheering on daughter at a volleyball game, and working at my family farm or playing with my two children in my backyard.
